Things are heating up in Springfield so here we go : Rep Dan Beiser has moved HB0930 and it is on the Calendar for 2nd reading in the House and the ISP (Illinois State Police) want to talk. Maybe we are in the position to get more out of them?? HB0930 is a "No Profiling" bill to stop motorcycle only check points. It is a Shell Bill, no real content, and has a short description of Criminal Law Tech to be amended to include the no profiling at a later date Rep Mary Flowers is planning on moving her HB0285 and HB0290. One bill would put helmets on everyone 26 and under and the other would put them on everyone. When they move I will let you know! (Call your Representative and ask them to oppose these bills) The best way to kill something is to kill it before it raises its ugly head. So tell your state legislators that we will oppose any bill that will authorize E-15 blend gasoline. The link below will give you your State Reps and their ph #'s http://www.ilga.gov/house/ Last year HB1979, a bill to pave the way for E-15 sales in this state, was held back by the sponsor due to opposition from several organizations including ABATE of Illinois . Your BOD (Board of Directors) voted to oppose the use of E-15 until further independent testing is done to approve it for motorcycles. The AMA, MRF , US Coast Guard, Chrysler, G.M. and Toyota have all voiced their concerns and ask that it not be approved for sale till more testing is done. It is also rough on all gasoline powered hand tools. Remember that NO motorcycles were tested for use of E-15 and NO motorcycles were designed to use E-15. We want more and better testing on the effects of using E-15 in our motorcycles both old and new and all models. When you talk to your state legislators tell them it needs more testing and there are bills in the US Congress on this subject such as: HR3199 and HR748 which would prevent the sale of E-15 in certain vehicles, and the Letter from GM Chrysler and Toyota criticizing the EPA on its plan to allow its use. The letter is in the attachment. Calls do work! As most of you know we had a favorite
friend in the US Senate suffer from a stroke. A get well card was sent
to US Senator Mark Kirk from the Legislative dept. It would be a very
nice thing for all chapters to send him a card. He has been a friend of
ours from the start. Bob Myers |
