ABATE is mainly a motorcyclists rights organization dedicated to preserving the riders freedom of choice and freedom of the road, education and safety. Our members are active in public awareness programs, motorcycle safety programs and in supporting all types of charity events.

The Northwest Suburban Chapter of ABATE of IL covers suburban Cook County as well as parts of Lake and Mc Henry. Our chapter meetings are held at the Rose Garden Cafe in Elk Grove Village quartly at 7:30 p.m, for the dates please check or Meetings page..

Illinois Text Messaging and Cell Phone Laws

"A person may not operate a motor vehicle on a roadway while using
an electronic communication device to compose, send, or read an
electronic message"

"Electronic message" includes, but is not limited to electronic mail,
a text message, an instant message, or a command or request to access
an Internet site."

Another law that will take effect on January 1st, 2010 is Senate
Bill 72 titled "Vehicular Phone Use in School Zones".
According to the new law:

"A person, regardless of age, may not use a wireless telephone at
any time while operating a motor vehicle on a roadway in a school
speed zone"
